Series: Superiority

As I have come to terms with a more conscious life in the here and now, I have noticed the following: Animals are superior to humans in many ways, be it in terms of strength, speed or the sensitivity of their senses. They have one ability in particular: they concentrate directly on the present and focus their attention solely on what they are hearing and seeing.
An ability that we humans have lost.

Deer in a snowstorm

  • 100 x 100 cm Canvas with 4 cm thick slats
  • Sold

We spent a week in the mountains in spring 2020.

It started snowing on the very first evening and we sat at the window for hours watching huge white flakes float down from the sky. We just sat there, without cell phones, without TV, without talking, without thoughts, without appointments. Simply enjoy the silence and the enchanting moment.

What a fantastic sight! Could there be a more beautiful place in this world?

Why don’t we have moments of happiness like this more often?

A quote from Picasso came to mind:
“I do not seek, I find!”

What is he trying to tell us? What Picasso means is that the real discoveries come as a surprise. You cannot force or influence them. We should go through life with open eyes and recognize the “invisible” treasures.

Open your eyes, listen to your heart and forget your reason for a moment, … that’s exactly what my
“Deer in a snowstorm”
.

A few years ago, my husband surprised me with an incredible gift: I got to spend an afternoon with my favorite animals at the zoo: I got to meet elephants!

These animals have always fascinated me!

It was so incredible to touch her skin, which felt completely different than I thought it would. It was relatively hairy and felt: hm, … like eraser! Yes indeed, rather rubbery. Only the skin on the forehead and the base of the trunk is very wrinkled.

Experts explained to me that these were not wrinkles, but breaks in the top layer of skin. These furrows and folds serve as mud and water reservoirs.

For me as an artist, surfaces are a particularly exciting subject.

It was the combination of my favorite animals and the relief-like skin that inspired me for my “Gentle Giant”.

I think almost every cat lover knows them, the moments in everyday life with cats. You take a few drawers out of the cupboard because you need to repair something and then, suddenly, the compartment in the cupboard is occupied by a cat.

Or you get up from your seat for a moment and when you want to sit down again seconds later, your cat is lolling around there. As if that wasn’t enough, she looks at you with her big eyes as if she’s never been anywhere else but here.

That’s exactly what I love about cats! Not a day goes by without them bringing at least one smile to your face.

After many layers of paint applied with a painting knife, Findus found his place on the canvas.

I had the honor of painting a picture for a pug lover. Having grown up with dogs myself, I hadn’t paid much attention to this breed before.

While painting, I realized that this motif certainly had its charm.

My client was so enthusiastic about the result that she now wanted to convert me into a “pug lover”. She tried to make her enthusiasm palatable to me with the following words:
“The pug is not a normal dog, you can see that at first glance: He is a mixture of Andalusian fighting bull, marzipan pig and white sausage. It suits mentally stable people who are not bothered by the fact that their best friend snores, grunts, sheds hair and always claims the best spot on the sofa with complete self-confidence. It also suits people with a strong character who don’t need a designer dog as a distraction from their own inadequacies. The pug is not a fashion dog, it is a classic. The pug is not a dog – it’s a way of life!

“Shabby Chic Cow” is the result of my love of experimentation.

The technique of color removal and the special mix of materials make this work so appealing.

Applying different layers of paint is the beginning of this creative process. This is because they determine the color tone, which is later scratched out of the layering.

Depending on the pressure of the movement, the colors of the individual layers come to light. This gave the canvas an old and worn look.

A very fine gold pigment enhances the surface with its shimmering sheen.

And now I have placed the cow on the canvas with acrylic.
